16/365 Dying Media
As great as cd and dvd discs were when they first came out they have been dying a slow death. Thumb drives, flash drives, compact flash, sd cards, and many other portable storage devices have long since taken their place. Cloud storage takes it even further as there is no device to remember to take with you. Files and photos sync automatically to the cloud and then to other computers and devices. Really cool. Even some laptops don’t come with optical drives. I say good riddance! Cds and dvds are a pain. They get scratched, they are challenging to burn in the first place and then the kicker is that the data or photos on them isn’t going to be on them for more than 5-10 years. What kind of backup is that. I very rarely have any use for them, but I did find one use for a spindle of DVDs I have had sitting in my office for years. I photographed them. With the addition of some creative lighting I give you today’s photo. Enjoy and don’t rely on those old discs you have stuff “backed up” on. If you care about the contents move it somewhere else NOW, before the disc is unreadable.
