31/365 Calibration
A vital part of my photography is making images that are consistant in color from camera to monitor to print. Today’s photo is my monitor calibration device doing all of its tests to make sure colors I see from my monitor are accurate. Every monitor shows colors differently and this is the best/only way to make sure I see every pixel as accurately as possible. I realize however that other people that see my work probably don’t have a calibrated monitor, and that is ok, the best I can do is make sure everything is as accurate as possible on my end.

29/365 The Spirit
Tonight we had the pleasure of being visited by this cute little spirit. Isn’t he adorable?!

28/365 12
Todays photo is from a little camping area we drove through today. The number 12 has no real significants, it was the post marking this great camping spot. We can’t wait for it to get warmer so we can come back and do a little camping.

27/365 A Child’s Smile
I love the innocence and purity of a child’s smile.
Here you can see the joy on their faces as they watch a thrilling part of a movie.

26/365 Computer Tech
Today I am playing computer tech. Here is the insides of a laptop I am attempting to resurrect. Wish me luck!

25/365 Pop-Up
This is my sons pop-up book he made for parent teacher conference today. I love the colors, the pop-ups and the story. Nicely done buddy!

24/365 At last…
At last the Christmas candy is gone! My kids decided to save some of their candy so it would last longer. While I admire this I also just wanted it gone. So this is the last of it thanks goodness.
23/365 Snow
Today marked one of the most significant snow days all winter. It has been a very mild winter so far, which I am not sad about, but we do need the snow. Now for more shoveling, ugh!

22/365 Sugar
In a moment of desperation today I decided to photograph my wife’s bracelet that she picked up this weekend in Las Vegas at the Sugar Factory.

21/365 Friends
Yes, just like the popular movie “Finding Nemo” these fish are friends. These are some of my longest surviving fish and I have had them for almost 5 years.

20/365 Movie Night
Tonight, as traditional in my family, was movie night. We watched Dolphin Tale and my kids and I really liked it. We would recommend getting it if you haven’t seen it yet. Oh and thanks Netflix for sending it to us. As much as I have considered canceling my disc part of my service I am often reminded that a lot of movies, especially new ones aren’t on instant watch. So I will stay put… for now.

19/365 What diet?
The star of the show today is…. (pause for effect)…. a cupcake! This was my son’s cupcake and I am proud to say that I didn’t have even a bite of it. This cupcake by the way is from Dippidee in American Fork.

18/365 Ice Art
After driving by this Ice Art sculpture/tree many times I thought today would be the perfect day to make a photograph of it. It is pretty crazy looking and at night they have it lit up. Here is a closeup of the ice and below is the entire tree so you can get a feel for what it looks like driving by it.

17/365 Sick
I know it has been a couple of days since my last post and this picture explains why. I’ve been sick. While I did take this on the 17th I am playing catch up on a couple days. Why do we get sick anyway? What’s the point?

16/365 Dying Media
As great as cd and dvd discs were when they first came out they have been dying a slow death. Thumb drives, flash drives, compact flash, sd cards, and many other portable storage devices have long since taken their place. Cloud storage takes it even further as there is no device to remember to take with you. Files and photos sync automatically to the cloud and then to other computers and devices. Really cool. Even some laptops don’t come with optical drives. I say good riddance! Cds and dvds are a pain. They get scratched, they are challenging to burn in the first place and then the kicker is that the data or photos on them isn’t going to be on them for more than 5-10 years. What kind of backup is that. I very rarely have any use for them, but I did find one use for a spindle of DVDs I have had sitting in my office for years. I photographed them. With the addition of some creative lighting I give you today’s photo. Enjoy and don’t rely on those old discs you have stuff “backed up” on. If you care about the contents move it somewhere else NOW, before the disc is unreadable.
This concludes this public service announcement

15/365 Guess Who?
Family night tonight and we played this new version of the game “Guess Who?” with these mix and match faces. Quite entertaining to see everyones faces come together.

14/365 Helping Hands
This morning we had so much fun going to Lowe’s with the scouts and building castles. This is a photo of my wife helping one of my sons hammer his castle door together. We will have to attend these evens at Lowe’s more often now that we know about them.

13/365 Risk vs. Reward
Which direction will you take? Into the unknown blur perhaps? Risk vs. Reward?

12/365 Sunspot
While at dinner today I noticed this really interesting shadow and sunspot that the water glass was casting. It is cool how the shadow splits where the sunspot is and then continues as if if was a shadow of some type of egg.

11/365 Arrow Point
We attended our Cub Scout Pack Meeting last night and my son was awarded 2 Arrow Points. It is great that scouting can give him confidence and gratification by earning awards.

10/365 Origami
My son Shawn got out his new origami book that was given to him on Christmas and had a blast. These are two of my favorites that he made. Nicely done Shawn and thanks for helping me light paint these.

9/365 Couscous
Healthy eating at its finest. This is a delicious plate of Couscous Confetti that we ate for the first time tonight. Love all the colors of the veggies in it.

8/365 Twister
Tonight we had a family get together and birthday party for Shawn. It was a great time and so funny to watch the kids play Twister for the first time.
